Misson Statement

The mission of the San Joaquin Pride Center is to serve the diverse LGBTQQIA community in San Joaquin County and the surrounding areas by creating a safe and welcoming space, by providing resources that enrich body, mind and spirit, and by educating the public in tolerance and respect for all people within the LGBTQQIA community.

Christopher Biles, President

A native Californian Christopher has been in the banking industry for over 25 years. He is Vice President Learning and Development Facilitator with Wells Fargo Bank. Christopher is an openly gay man who has advocated for the LGBTQ community his entire adult life. He made Stockton his home in 2013 and has been honored by how marvelous the community is. Christopher spends his free time assisting other groups with charity functions, time with family, and traveling.

Dyane Burgos Medina, Vice President

Dyane Burgos Medina is a Bear Creek High School Alumni and has a Master’s degree in Social Work and earned her Law Degree from the Laurence Drivon School of Law. As a social worker, Dyane Burgos Medina, works tirelessly to improve the quality of life for our children and strengthen family units. Appointed to the Stockton city council in early 2013, Burgos wasted no time making her presence felt and advocated for policies and ordinances that acknowledged, respected and included the LGBT community. Her efforts culminated in the passing of a historic pro-LGBT resolution that unanimously passed the Stockton City Council. Now off the Council, Dyane is focusing her energy on numerous community projects that effect our area.

Tracy Irelan, Board Member

Tracy was born and raised in Michigan but moved to California in 1985. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from The University of California, Davis in 1990. Tracy has five years’ experience as a student Financial Aid Director, five years in Human Resources and Retail Management and has been in her current position in Cost Accounting for a Fortune 500 manufacturer for over ten years. She has worked in San Joaquin County since 1995 and lived here since 2001. Tracy married her partner of fifteen years, Ms Heidi Moore, in 2008 and they make their home in Stockton where Heidi was born and raised.

Renee Hall, Board Member

Ms. Hall is the Business Manager at a local financial planning firm, Drummond & Associates. Renee is a founding member of the local Central Valley Stonewall Democratic Club; she is an activist within the LGBT community. Renee grew up in the California Central Valley and loves to travel as evidenced by her work history: US Army (Texas, Maryland & Germany), California State University System (Turlock, CA), U.S. Forest Service (California North Coast), and Industrial Design Corporation (Portland, OR). Along her life path she has completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology/Botany and worked for many years in the family beekeeping business handling bees, marketing and distribution. Renee is a member of Stockton Beautiful and is involved in many local charitable organizations in her community and enjoys being with her family anywhere in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Renee married her partner of 32 years, Assemblymember Susan Talamantes Eggman in June 2014 and their life together continues with their daughter Emelia, three dogs and a cat.

Michael Nguyen, Board Member

A native Californian with a Bachelor’s degree in Government, Michael studied at Loyola University in New Orleans and California State University Sacramento. Sacramento proved to be a great place to pursue his interests in social justice and public policy. Nguyen served three different State Senators in the Legislature–as an intern for California State Senator Elaine Alquist followed by a position serving Senator Ed Hernandez as Senate Health Committee staff, and most recently as policy staff for Senator Ricardo Lara. From 2013 to 2014, Michael relocated to Brazil while his husband, a native Brazilian, completed his doctoral studies. In Brazil, Michael started an English teaching/translation business, and had the pleasure of learning Portuguese in an immersive environment. Family reasons compelled the couple to come back to California and Michael joined Health Plan of San Joaquin in November 2014 where he is in charge of legislative affairs and community engagement. He became a Stockton resident in January 2015.

Advisory Board

Donna Brown

Donna Brown served as Stockton’s Deputy City Manager for nine years before retiring. In 2008, she and her partner Colleen Foster started the political consulting firm, Donna Brown & Associates. Donna has been involved in several community organizations from the Stockton Arts Commission, Tidewater Art Gallery, Delta Rotary Club, Harry S Truman Club, and the League of Women Voters.

Shawn Crary

Owner of Big Monkey Group LLC a publishing and media firm in Stockton CA. Shawn currently serves on the board of directors for the San Joaquin AIDS Walk, the Tidewater Art Gallery, and the Miracle Mile Association. In his free time he enjoys cooking, traveling and spending time with his family; husband Ernesto Gallardo, son, Cameron Crary, 3 dogs and 1 cat.

Hon. Susan Eggman

The Central Valley’s first out LGBT elected official. Susan decided to run for office after the 2004 election cycle, believing change was necessary. Susan strongly believes that social, economic and environmental justice is possible through the political process. As a founding member of the Central Valley Stonewall Democratic Club, Susan has been an active catalyst for LGBT activism within San Joaquin County. Susan currently serves as Assemblymember for the 13th Assembly District in the State of California.
